Breakfast in the deep south

Getting out early is the secret. The day is young. The birds are out getting their worms. Everything is fresh. And, most importantly, the crowds are still in bed!

Breakfast is a great meal to have out. It is healthy as you are getting your protein to set you up for the day. Also, it is better for the budget, as opposed to an evening meal which would possibly include wine. If you are banting, you can enjoy bacon and eggs, mushroom and fried tomato with impunity, and ‘sans’ guilt.

Noordhoek Farm Village, just 10 minutes drive from African Violet, is a great place to enjoy this treat. You have the choice of two great restaurants – The Food Barn Deli and Cafe Roux.

A little further is distance is Kalk bay. There you have a greater choice in restaurant, and also great food. Facing east you have stunning views of morning sun over the Hottentots Holland Mountains across the sparkling water of the vast bay, and busy activities at Kalk Bay Harbour.

Simon’s Town, also located overlooking False Bay, a quaint historic town, offers fabulous options for the first meal of the day.

There are award winning restaurants on the main road, as well as those that overlook the harbour basin.

Another option is Scarborough. Again on the coast, but now the west coast, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. There you have a choice of three restaurants, and can finish it off with a stroll along the beach.

I can recommend all of these choices.
